When I was a new teacher, I went to visit my Aunt Jo and her family for the weekend. Since they were only 3 hours away, it was a do-able drive for a single teacher who lived several states away from her immediate family.

On one of my weekend visits, my Aunt prepared this delicious apple snickers salad. It’s certainly not as healthy as a lettuce salad but I serve it as a side dish so I’m sticking with the name of salad. When you serve a salad like this, you can make salad converts of anyone!

I love this recipe because it only has 5 ingredients. I’m a big fan of simple recipes like this. It has a unique flavor combination that surprises people. The combination of tart apples with sweet pudding is perfect. Adding in the surprise of Snickers makes it a truly tasty treat.

I have taken apple snickers salad to countless potlucks and parties. Rarely do I bring home leftovers and I am always asked for the recipe. I did have one person mistake it for potato salad and add salt and pepper before I could say anything. Oops!

This salad is best eaten shortly after making it. As it sits, the pudding thins out from the juice of the apples. You can eat leftovers the next day (and I do), but the salad is best enjoyed right away.

5 Ingredients Needed for Apple Snickers Salad:

4-5 Granny Smith apples
1 package instant vanilla pudding (3.4 ounces)
1 container Cool Whip (8 ounces)
1 cup milk
16 mini Snickers bars (adjust to taste)

How to Make Apple Snickers Salad:

In large bowl, mix vanilla pudding and milk. Stir together until no lumps remain. Stir in Cool Whip.

Wash and dice Granny Smith apples. Stir into pudding mixture.

Carefully chop up Snickers bars into bite sized pieces. Be sure to use a sharp knife for quick and clean pieces. This is the best paring knife I’ve ever used and it’s a bargain under $8!

Stir diced Snickers into pudding mixture. Mix well with apples. Serve and enjoy!

Additional Apple Salad Notes:

This is a really flexible recipe. Simply remember the ratios of 1:1:1. 1 cup of milk to 1 package pudding to 1 carton Cool Whip.

I never count apples or snickers bars. I just add them until I see a good mixture of apples, pudding and snickers. I want all the apples and snickers to be covered with pudding but I also want it to be a chunky salad. Once you make this salad once, you’ll see what I mean. Trust yourself because you really can’t go wrong when making apple snickers salad! It really is an easy apple recipe.

  5. This sounds wonderful. I wonder if I could lighten it with using sugar free pudding and cool whip. I would also use fat free half & half in place of milk. I think I will try it.

    1. I use lite cool whip all the time, Debbie, and skim milk and the salad tastes delicious! I’ve never tried sugar free pudding or half and half though, so you’ll have to let me know how it turns out.

  6. When I was growing up, something like this was always a staple at the holiday gatherings. I don’t remember who made it and I haven’t recalled seeing it in a number of years. Personally, I never cared for it, but I know that it was always popular, so I think I was in the minority.

  7. I’ve had this a few times (as a “dessert salad”) and it is fabulous! But I didn’t have the recipe, so thanks for sharing!

    1. It is fabulous, and the recipe is requested everywhere I take this salad, so I figured it was high time I shared this recipe! 🙂
