I spent my weekend menu planning for a visit from my parents this weekend – and 2 of my 3 siblings next weekend. I menu plan by going through my pantry and freezer. Then, I look through the ads. This weekend, I’m cooking crock-pot potato soup and artisan bread as well as sausage stuffed pasta shells and apple pie. I’m also cooking the Pioneer Woman’s cinnamon rolls and her pan fried pork chops. Oh, and I’m going to try this pumpkin sour cream coffee cake.
I started by shopping at Kroger. I picked up one more round of Kroger mega deals and found a good deal on pork roast for $1.49/lb. Here’s everything I bought.
The sparkling cider was $1.99 and I thought it would be a nice treat for Thanksgiving. I know the upcoming weeks are going to be busy so I bought the big bags of shredded cheese. It was the same price as the big blocks ($2.99) but I opted for the convenience factor this week. The bakery crips were free, thanks to the recent Friday digital coupon from Kroger. Finally, I bought more condensed soup for $0.40 a can – after sale and coupons.
At Kroger, I spent $26.55…of which $10.70 was spent on the pork. I saved 50% at Kroger.
Then, I headed down the road to Meijer to stock up on produce. I must say that Meijer was not nearly as busy as Kroger which was nice. Here’s what I bought at Meijer.
I bought 3 pounds of carrots ($2.49), 10 pounds of potatoes ($2.19), 3 pounds of apples ($2.50) and 5 pounds of clementines ($5.88). I also bought frozen corn for my cheesy crockpot corn that I’m making for Thanksgiving.
Ground beef was on sale for $2.99/lb and butter was on sale for $1.88/lb. Now is a great time to stock up on butter and it freezes great! Cream cheese was on also on sale for $0.99, when I bought 4 boxes. That is another product that I always keep in my fridge.
At Meijer, I spent $40.24. I bought a lot of produce so I am happy with that. Oh! I also spent $1.75 on a dozen farm eggs.
This week, I spent $68.54. This brings my total for November to $149.85. This leaves me with $30.15 to spend for November. I think I have most of what I need already for next week so I can make that stretch to cover everything. Were you shopping for company this week?
