At the beginning of every new year, I take a long and detailed look at our grocery budget. We actually adjust our whole budget every year after we file our taxes, so the grocery budget is a natural part of that. Since we filed our taxes last week, I've been pouring over all the categories in our budget. I spent the most time wondering if it was time to adjust our grocery budget again. My grocery budget is low. I know that. We are now a family of five - my husband and myself, a 5 year old boy, a 3 year old girl and a 1 year old. My grocery budget covers food, diapers, toiletries, … Read More...
September Grocery Shopping in Review
Here's to the end of September! It's been an unusually hot September here in Fort Wayne so I am ready for the cooler weather which seems to finally have arrived yesterday! Yes, I grew up in Texas but I don't miss those hot days - especially when the kids want to be playing outside. After watching for a sale all summer, I scored a great deal on water table for the kids this past week. Normally $80 at Kohls, it was clearanced to $29. I stacked a 30% off code with free shipping and a bit of a leftover gift card, so only paid $12 out of pocket for this great water table shipped to our door. I feel … Read More...
August Shopping Totals
I feel like I say this almost every month but didn't August pass quickly? August is a busy month for us because Andy spends lots of time at school getting his classroom ready for a new year. I spent a couple afternoons up there helping him and it was nice to save him some time as we worked together. We are two perfectionistic teachers so we think alike when it comes to preparing classrooms! My shopping and menu planning were a bit scattered in August. Honestly, my mother-in-law and I are still getting used to sharing a kitchen, a refrigerator and our menu planning. We are trying to take … Read More...
July Grocery Shopping & Some Quick Questions
As you read about in our official house update, July was a crazy month for us. We were in the midst of selling our house, moving and had two quick vacations to Wisconsin (with college friends) and southern Indiana (for a family reunion). Honestly? I didn't pay much attention to our grocery budget last month. Every frugal shopper has to draw the line somewhere and in July? That was my line. I shopped when we needed to for the things we needed. And I just realized that I don't have a single picture of my grocery shopping in July either! It obviously was a different month. Part of our July … Read More...
The Month of June Grocery Shopping
Maybe once summer ends I will get back into my regular grocery reports but for now? I'm wrapping up another month all at once. How can it be that June is almost over? Oh, yes. I know. We've been busy selling our house! And guess what? After 2 weeks of being on the market with 16 showings, we sold our house! It's under contract now, so provided the appraisal goes smoothly, we are scheduled to close on July 21. It's been a whirlwind month but we are so thankful that things seem to be moving along smoothly. We've worked hard at keeping the house clean this month for all the showings. We've … Read More...
The Month of May Grocery Shopping
What a crazy couple of weeks! As I alluded to in our newsletter the other week, we've been making some big decisions around here. Not quite three weeks ago, we decided to sell our house! We love our house and our charming small town but it was quite a ways from the downtown Lutheran school where my husband teaches. Plus, my in-laws are selling their house and building a new one, so we decided to buy theirs. Of course, to do so, we have to sell ours first. The last couple weeks have been an absolute whirlwind of activity. We listed late Sunday night (after 2 weeks of busy preparations, … Read More...
