I've been told I'm hard to shop for. I blame it on the fact that I'm practical and frugal. I enjoy giving gifts to others but for myself? I'm content with practical and simple gifts. After my husband asked me (again) what I'd like for Christmas, I started thinking about the gifts a mom really want. As a Mom, it's easy to focus on others but it is nice to receive a gift that we really do want. I asked on the Joyfully Thriving Facebook page and received some great feedback. Between those moms and myself, I came up with a pretty great list of 70 gifts that moms really want. You'll notice … Read More...

When You Feel Like You Don’t Measure Up
The comparison game. We all play it. Does any of the following sound familiar? (Hint: Fill in 'before me' or 'better than me' to see exactly what I mean.) She got married first. Most Important Work
A couple weeks ago, I saw a picture on Instagram that instantly touched my heart. Why have I never heard this quote before? What better reminder is there for a mom than this? Where could I get this print for my house? I loved this quote because it was a perfect reminder for me in this season of my life. Being a wife and mom is my privilege, my responsibility and (in very Lutheran terms) my vocation. Faith formation starts at … Read More...
2 Words Every Mom Needs to Hear and Say
It’s 5 o’clock. Your 2 year old is whining, the baby is crying and your husband isn’t home from work yet. You, super Mom (ha!) that you are, are trying to get dinner on the table, distract the toddler and soothe the baby, all while trying not to give into the frustration of realizing how much (again) didn't get done today. Does any (or all) of this sound familiar? It’s familiar to me because this is my story. It’s why I’ve started telling myself two little words whenever these crazy moments of life arise. Be still. Be still. It’s one of my favorite Bible verses from Psalm 46:10a, … Read More...

I am so thankful for the opportunity to be home with my children, but that doesn't mean there aren't challenges that come with this blessing, too. It can also be isolating when you are home by yourself with the children all day. All moms go through these lonely seasons. Perhaps the weather is keeping us … Read More...
