The Heart of Hannah

Published August 08, 2010 Leave a Comment

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and reflecting this week on the heart of Hannah. It came about because of some challenging conversations I had and then a devotion book I was given by a former parent. It means more to me than you know, Stachia! Really, though, I know it came about because of God and His timing. Hannah awes me. Truly, it is the heart of Hannah that awes me. There is so much in Hannah’s heart! There is so much more than meets the eye in Hannah’s life and story. Her story is more than a baby story. It’s story of life with a baby mixed in. Her story is about her heart in all … Read More...

We Believe

Published July 22, 2010 2 Comments

Yesterday, the National LCMS Youth Gathering - We Believe - ended in New Orleans. Over 23,000 Lutheran youth gathered together for a time to worship, learn and grow. I am a firm believer that every Lutheran youth should do two things. Number One - Go on a Mission Trip. Number Two - Go to a National Youth Gathering. Both of these events will change your life in dramatic, if admittedly different, ways. I know because I experienced both and my life was changed by both. My first experience with a National Youth Gathering was in 1995 - River of Light in San Antonio. I lived in San Antonio and … Read More...

Davenie’s Baptism

Published July 18, 2010 Updated April 30, 2015 Leave a Comment

Today Davenie Kael becomes God's child in the water and Word of baptism. What a miracle it is to witness! God takes ordinary "stuff" as my Pastor / Dad likes to say and does something out of the ordinary. God writes His name on her heart. I've always loved the hymn "See This Wonder in the Making" by Carl Schalk. Do you know this baptismal hymn? It begins like this, "See this wonder in the making - God Himself this child is taking. Now God's precious son or daughter, born again by Word and water." What a grace-filled gift! Andy and I are honored to serve as Davenie's baptismal sponsors. As we … Read More...

One Year

Published July 11, 2010 Updated July 13, 2010 Leave a Comment

A lot can happen in one year - especially in one year of marriage. Today is my first wedding anniversary. Yes, already, I know! A year ago, I joyfully married my husband, Andy. We both waited awhile to find one another, but it was worth every moment of waiting. You see, Andy and I are both blessed with wonderful marriage examples in our parents, grandparents as well as many of our aunts and uncles. We knew marriage was worth waiting for, so wait we did. One year ago, we were gathered with many dear family and friends, who came from many states to celebrate with us. One year ago, we sang … Read More...

Welcome!

Published July 01, 2010 Updated August 01, 2010 6 Comments

Welcome to my new website! If you are here, at this point, it is most likely that you know me. You may be one of my siblings, my parents, my in-laws, my cousins, my aunts or uncles, a college friend or former parent of my students. Whatever the reason, I'm glad you are here! Thank you for taking the time to explore my website. This website began as a thought over three years ago, sitting at the kitchen table with my cousins Mike and Bethany Hanel. We were having one of our monthly get-togethers in Milford, Ohio, when the talk turned to frugal finds and bargain shopping. We shared and talked … Read More...
