It’s been awhile since I shared a grocery post with you! I meant to wrap up March before I left for our Spring Break travels but it didn’t happen. Did you do anything special for Spring Break? Andy attended a history conference in Atlanta, Georgia, which is where my sister and her family live. While Andy went to the conference and explored Civil War sites in the area, the kids and I enjoyed time with my sister and her 5 kids. Nathan loved playing with his cousins, falling into an exhausted sleep each night after playing hard all day.
Obviously, I didn’t go grocery shopping on vacation and since we were going to be gone for a week, we ate from the freezer and tried to clean out our fridge. Andy was away coaching at the National Lutheran Schools Basketball tournament the weekend before we left, so the kids and I ate from what we already had. Here’s how I ended March. Yes, it’s a phone picture on our messy table with Nathan trying to sneak some of the chocolate we bought! Real life.
I decided to write a birthday chocolate gram for my Mom (who we were also going to see briefly in Atlanta) so we picked up some chocolate from the checkout lane where it was “Buy 5, Get 5 free”, so each bar was basically $0.43. The big boxes were $1. She loved the candy gram and all the grand kids wanted to “share” her chocolate as soon as we gave it to her.
I had two coupons for free 12 packs of Coke products that I used on Fresca and a Coke Zero. I love free things! I also bought 3 packages of Luvs diapers. I had three $2/1 printable coupons plus a $3 Mperks reward to use. That means I spent $3.99 a package for each of the diapers. I knew I had room in my budget this month so I bought 2 more containers of Boston contact solution. Amazingly, a $3/2 coupon printed at the register, so I used that right away. It’s hard to find sales or coupons on hard contact solution so I’m always extra thankful when I find a good deal.
At Meijer, I spent $54.56 on this trip for lots of diapers, contact solution and foundation. Oh, and the miscellaneous other things!
I made one more later trip to Meijer as we needed a bit of frosting to take along to Atlanta for Nathan’s birthday cake. I also bought some more Luv’s diapers ($4.99), refilled our water jobs ($0.78), picked up some free hummus pick ($2.19 value), bought some crackers for the road ($1.79), chocolate chips ($2) and some applesauce cups for our travels ($1.67). My total added up to $16.12 for this final March trip to Meijer.
In March, I spent $246.75 of my my $260 monthly budget. It was nice to be under budget again.
When we arrived home, it was to a completely empty fridge. I pulled some things out of the freezer for us to eat right away (love freezer meals!). Then, on Friday, we took a family trip to Meijer and Aldi, and ate out at Red Robin. Nathan and I both had free meals for our birthdays as Red Robin, and we had a gift card to cover Andy’s meal so it was nice to eat out for free!
We started at Meijer where I wanted to pick up a couple of amazing deals from their two day sales.
Meijer diapers were on sale for $4.99. I really need to build up my diaper stockpile again because I’m tired of buying diapers almost every week. Still, I’m thankful that I have the room in our grocery budget to cover it!
Annie’s mac and cheese was on sale for “Buy 1, Get 1 Free”. I bought 4 boxes so I could use the $1/2 boxes printable coupon. That took my price to $0.64 a box. I didn’t do my math right (oops) and should have bought the boxes at Kroger where Annie’s is on sale for $1 at Kroger right now, meaning this coupon will make it only $0.50 a box. You can’t even get Kraft this cheap anymore, much less organic mac and cheese!
The 2 day deals were great! I bought Cheddar Biscuits for $0.89, Krusteav muffins for $0.99 and Ghiradelli brownies for $0.99. I also bought 5 pounds of flour for $1.29 and 4 pounds of sugar for $1.09. The sweetened condensed milk was also $1.09. Great prices!
I also bought salt, bananas and olives. The olives were on sale for $1.99, plus there was a $0.75 Ibotta rebate, a $0.25 any receipt rebate on Ibotta and a $2 April bonus Ibotta rebate. That means the olives were technically free and I made $0.99 on this shopping trip. I really do love Ibotta! (If you haven’t signed up for Ibotta yet, do it! The April $2 bonus on any one rebate is good through Monday. Plus, when you redeem your first rebate, you get a bonus $10.)
I refilled 3 of our water jugs and bought 2 pairs of shorts for Nathan. The shorts were on sale for $3.99 and I had an extra 15% off. Plus, I had another coupon to buy a $50 Meijer gift card and get $5 off. Since it’s basically free money, I LOVE these coupons and do them whenever I can. That $5 off meant I paid only $1.78 for 2 pairs of shorts or $0.89 each. That’s the way I like to shop!
At Meijer, I spent $25.91 to start off our April.
Then, our family went to check out the new Aldi in Fort Wayne. It is the biggest Aldi that I have been to and very nice. I’m going to see if I can shop there more regularly. It’s not exactly close but the every day low prices are good. I can still beat many of them with coupons, but when I don’t have coupons, it’s a good place to shop. Do you shop at Aldi?
At Aldi, I bought the following, as we wandered all the aisles, checking prices. I left Andy and Nathan pick a couple things that caught their eyes, too. 🙂

For April, I have now spent $78.41 of my monthly $260 budget. I’m excited to shop the Kroger deals this week as part of their two week mega deals. Look for those to come later this week! How’s your grocery budget doing this month?
