About Me

Hello! Welcome!

My name is Kristen and I’m so glad you are here! Here’s a bit of my story in words…with more pictures below.

Who am I? I’m a wife, a stay-at-home Mom, a sister, a daughter, and an Aunt. I’m a teacher, a friend, a reader, a pianist, a baker and a bargain seeker. Most importantly, I’m a baptized child of God. Why is all this important? This is who I am and why I write to share with you.

My Story…

I am the eldest of four children, born to a Lutheran pastor and his teacher wife. While my family is spread across the United States now (3 siblings in 3 different states, plus 3 siblings-in-law in another 2 states), we are a close-knit family. I have wonderful memories of sitting around the kitchen table with my family, laughing and sharing stories. I am who I am, by God’s grace, because of my family.

I met my husband while in college – although we didn’t get married until 9 years later. I am thankful every day for the blessing Andy is in my life. We were married in July of 2009. After years of waiting and praying for a baby, our son was born in March 2014. My husband is a Lutheran school teacher, as I was before I began staying at home with our son.

Growing up in a church work family, I learned quickly the value of frugality. We didn’t have a lot of money but we never were lacking. We learned firsthand how God will always provide for His children. Besides, as my Grandpa likes to say, we are rich already – someday we’ll have money. Now that I’m a SAHM, I am learning daily to love our frugal life!

What It’s All About…

Joyfully Thriving is the place where I write about my journey of living a frugal life. I share money saving tips and good deals, delicious recipes and good books, stories of my stay-at-home life, and frugal encouragement in abundance.

If you’re visiting for the first time, I hope you’ll take a look around the site. I write about a variety of topics so there is something for everyone! Here are a couple places to get started.

Start by learning how I stockpiled 2000 diapers for less than $50 and how I paid for our Christmas with my online earnings.

Try some of my favorite recipes like delicious poppyseed chicken, the best ever homemade crescent rolls or, of course, our perfect buckeyes – complete with step by step directions.

I share free printables that will help you save money including a stock-up price list and seasonal sale cycles. I even tell you how to make a priceless gift with this Biblical version of “Oh, the Places You’ll Go.”

Now, in case you skimmed over all of that, take a look at my story in pictures. You can click on any of the pictures for more information. Here’s a bit more about me!
