I have a couple favorite Bible verses that I repeat to myself regularly. One is “Be still” from Psalm 46. And the other is “Give thanks” from 1 Chronicles 16 or 1 Thessalonians 5. God often brings these verses to mind as I live my life.
There are so many reasons to give thanks! This weekend, I’m especially giving thanks for the birth of a healthy baby girl to my dear friend and fellow teacher, Allison, and her husband. Babies are always a good reason to give thanks…but there are countless reasons for thankfulness that surround us daily.
Sometimes, as part of my evening prayers, I challenge myself to find five things from my day for which to thank God. Some days it seems easier than others, but you know what? I can always find at least five things from the day for which to give thanks. Some days, I find myself giving thanks for things I didn’t realize were reasons for thankfulness, but upon reflection, they really were!
And so I encourage you – even as I encourage myself – to give thanks. Don’t overlook the opportunity to thank God for the blessings He showers upon us daily!
